Capability Development — Tata Steel online courses

As a responsible corporate, Tata Steel launched an e-learning initiative to help students and working professionals take advantage of the time available during the lockdown to upgrade their skills on various relevant topics.

As part of the program, many e-learning courses were offered from across disciplines. While the site hosting the e-learning modules witnessed traffic of more than 3.6 lakh people, there were more than eight lakh course licenses issued. Some of these courses are given below.

Advanced Excel

Advanced Excel is a detailed guide that offers a strong insight into MS Excel 2013’s latest and advanced features.

Industry 4.0

Industry 4.0 is meant to raise understanding of the word ‘Internet’ and other facets of IoT, social networking, blockchain, etc.

Duration of the Courses: 6 hours

Total Quality Management

TQM is a framework for increasing market performance and versatility. TQM is a strategic methodology intended to reach and surpass the needs of consumers.

Duration of the Courses: 3.5 hours

Compressor

Develop an understanding of the various compressors and their features and implementations.

Duration of the Courses: 2 hours

Fan and blower

Develop information about fan blowers design and range.

Duration of the Courses: 2 hours

Material handling

Participants after having completed this e-learning module should be able to:

● Identify devices used for rigging

● Specify Techniques for Rigging

● Know about limitation and use of rigging tools

● Know the criteria for rejection and testing rigging apparatuses

Duration of the Courses: 1 hour

Electrical cables

After completion of this task, learners should be able to identify an electrical control cable, explain its creation, describe the cable laying and installation procedures, describe cable laying and installation techniques, understand cable joining and mention the design factors of a power cable.

Earthing and Shock

The learners should be able to identify the earthing system by the end of this course, explain the meaning and function of earthing in power structures and identify earth-related terminologies.

Power systems

At the end of this course, learners should be able to describe electrical power supply, demonstrate how our home gets electric power, identify various energy sources for power plants, clarify the design and operating theory of alternators and turbine transformers in a power plant, and compare different energy sources.

Power system protection

This course will familiarize participants with the different concepts related to Power Systems Protection.

Contains 3 parts:-

● Part-1 deals with the fundamentals of protection of power systems, which involve the existence of defects, characteristics and essential security concepts, and the defensive elements.

● Part -II discusses the Relays role, operation, and classification.

● Part -III discusses the security relay environment.

Duration of the Courses: 4 hours

Fuel and combustion

The section describes the numerous forms of fuels that are used in manufacturing and discuss the mixture of these particular combustion fuels.

Duration of the Courses: 9 hours

Induction motors

The module focuses on the simple Induction Motors principle.

The MS Office E-Learning program contains learning videos that deal with MS-Word, Excel and Powerpoint ‘s basic understandings.

Machine learning fundamentals

The purpose of the tutorial is to provide a practical overview of various specific aspects (including some main modules) of ML without getting through the technicalities of programming languages (like R / Python) to incorporate ML.
